Individual Impact Statements (every staff person should complete 2-3 annually)

Narrative:

Child Care Providers are widely separated in a county that has no central meeting location.  Providers are serviced by three different resource and referral programs based in Laconia, Hanover and LIttleton.  Each agency is aware of the Better Kid Care Series through information we share with them at the beginning of each program year.

To better meet the needs of smaller center and home based programs, providers are offered a "study at home" program where we send them a copy of the telecast as well as any supporting handouts.  They can chose to view the materials on their own or as part of training for their staff.  Both methods are used.  When the evaluation is completed and returned with the tape to the office, a certificate of completion is forarded to them.  This is accepted by the Child Care and Licensing Board for NH as satisfying two of the hours of training needed by each staff person every year.

During the past year the four current programs of BKC as well as two programs from the previous year were made available.  The general response from participants is once they have viewed at least one of the tapes is "send me everything you have".  To avoid the loss of the original tape, we copy it only VHS which is a medium that most providers already have.  Thirty completed evaluations were returned to the office during FY07.

To increase our participation among providers we send out PSA's to local radio and print media as well as marketing them to former users of the program.  This resulted in an increase in participants from the previous year.  We are developing a list of providers to market the program to for future years.

This method seems to be a good way to provide needed education for providers that doesn't involve traveling at night after a long day of providing care for young children and still gives Extension the exposure needed as an organization that is interested in the education of many groups, especially when they are involved in the care and education of young children.
