Narrative:

June 26-July 19 4 part workshop series offered to Inmates at Belknap County House of Corrections relating to Communication skills and Conflict Resolution.  Post workshop surveys indicated increased knowledge and confidence in both areas.  Responses included the following:

What changes do you plan to make based upon the information in this program:

"Stop and think about the conflict at hand rather than just react and to be able to notice when I'm getting angry and try and know how to calm myself down."

"Learn to listen more carefully to what the other person is trying to say before assuming anything.  Also not bring past emotions or experiences into the present conflict. "

"Stop and take time to think before I react"

" I think I will be able to deal with things better.  The techniques I thought were really helpful."

"Don't fight about little things. Stop getting mad for nothing and think before I do anything."

"I think that this class offers great skills that are realistic and can be used in the real world."

"I now know how to do things to help myself out."

"This was helpful at teaching us that there is another way to do all things."

Narrative:

In the area of "Life Skills", I conducted 4 programs/workshops. 1 was Anger Management, which was for the Academy Program. 3 were Stress Management programs; one for the Academy program, one for Collins-Akeman employees in Farmington as part of "When your Income Drops" Money/Stress workshops, and one for the AmeriCorps Victim Assistance Program.

The Anger Management series for the Academy program had 10 participants who completed the evaluations.

90% of participants reported that they agree or strongly agree that they will use this information now and in the future. 90% of participants reported learning something new:

"How to calm down more and talk", "Different ways to handle anger" "Ways to calm down", "That I am an angry person and need to practice a lot of this", "some of my triggers and came to more of an understanding on the situations they start", "I've learned to take anything that comes at me with a different approach"

I had a total of 34 participants in my 3 stress management workshops. The Academy program had a 5-week series. The other two programs were one-time workshops. One was one-hour long. The other was 2 1/2 hours long.

100% of participants reported agreeing or strongly agreeing that they learned new information.
